Once again, I’d like to give a HUGE congratulations to you all for accomplishing the huge task of putting all of our drill on the field last Friday! This puts us in a great position to perform our absolute best over the next month. As we are in the latter half of the season, I’d like to prepare you all for what’s to come. It’s going to be so exciting! Read carefully! - This week we will have normally scheduled rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-5:30pm. - This Saturday is our rehearsathon from 9am-5pm! Lunch will be provided, make sure to answer the survey sent out! This will also be a red shirt rehearsal - All pass offs will be due by next Friday, 9/29. Remember, students have until the end of the 1st 9 weeks to complete pass offs past the due date for a grade. - Our next home football game is going to be next Friday, 9/29, against Jensen. This is also our 8th grade band night! A form was sent to middle school directors a week ago, but if you know any 8th graders in band that you’d like to invite, let me know and I’ll get you the form! - Our first of 3 major performances will take place on September 30th! This is the SLPS Showcase of Bands at Lawnwood Stadium! A detailed itinerary for this day will be sent out next Monday. Call time will be 10am at pslhs. We will take buses for all major performances and meet at the school first. All students are required to ride the bus to competitions with the exception of extreme circumstances. Please answer the survey for food that was sent out yesterday! - Our other two major performances are on 10/14 (crown jewel) and 10/28 (Marching Music Performance Assessment). Detailed itineraries will be sent out for these a week before they happen. - For all performances, we will need volunteers! Preferably 10 for each performances! Chaperones will ride the buses and assist the band in any way needed during these trips! Thanks so much to all parents who have volunteered thus far! Please let me know you have any questions! Good morning band family! I hope you are having a great weekend! Can you believe we are already almost to the half way point of the marching season?? It is flying by… this also means it is GO time! Keep growing and taking those strides forward!
- We have normally scheduled marching rehearsals Tuesday and Thursday 2:30-5:30pm. We will begin learning the CLOSER this week! Be prepared! - Friday night is our first continuity rehearsal of the season! This will take place in the stadium at pslhs from 6-9pm. Please wear a red shirt…. Attendance is VASTLY important. Beginning at 5:30pm, the band will be provided pizza via a generous donation from band parent Mr. Whyms, aka Alexis’ dad! Make sure to give him a big thank you! - Our next home football game is on September 29th against Jensen beach high school! This will also be our middle school band night! - Competition season is right around the corner, with the SLPS “Showcase of Bands” first up on September 30th. This will be at Lawnwood stadium in fort pierce. A link to purchase presale tickets for this will be sent out this week. All presale ticket funds purchased with the link I send you will benefit OUR program… if you purchase tickets at the door, the will benefit the festival itself. - Our other two competition performances are on October 14th for crown jewel, and October 28th for marching MPA. - Normally schedule marching rehearsal this Tuesday and Thursday 2:30-5:30pm. Always remember to eat before practice, bring your water jugs, and have an appropriate change of clothes ready. - Friday, there will be a PERCUSSION only rehearsal with a dinner of pizza provided. It will start at 4pm- and conclude at 8:30pm with Mr. Matthews and Charlie. - By this point, pass off 1 and 2 is due, which is the entire opener by memory. Please take care of this asap if you haven’t done so! The next pass off is Friday 9/7. This is up through the end of the ballad at letter R. - If you are a parent that ordered a shirt or shirts over the summer, please remember to pay for them asap. They are $15 each. By Wednesday, all remaining shirts will go to who pays from the most recent order last week. Additional shirts have been ordered and should be here soon. - If you began the process of paying your band fee, and haven’t paid it all at once, please remember to keep the payments coming in. A little at a time is fine, but progress needs to be being made. The total fee is $175 per student. - There is no game this week! - Our next home football game is this THURSDAY night. This game is also SENIOR NIGHT. That means, the senior band, cheerleader, and football students will be recognized with a few guests of their choice before the game starts on the track. This game was moved from Friday to Thursday for a reason that I am not sure of. Band call time will still be 5pm, and seniors and their guest will report to the track at 6:10pm. I will post more details regarding the game on Monday. Just like last night, this game is required for all band members and is a graded performance. - Due to the game on Thursday, this will affect our practice that day. Tuesday will still be 2:30-5:30, but Thursday will be a short practice from 2:30-3:30pm. Students will then have a short break before the 5pm call time to change/chill/eat. - Pass off #1 and 2 our past due. All students should have passed off the entire opener to be up to speed on pass offs. Never hesitate to ask for help if needed on your pass offs. - If parents ordered show shirts during the summer, we have them in the band room. Please send the $15 per shirt payment with your child to school, and the shirts will be given the them. We will be doing another round of show shirts order for the parents asking for one! Students will need to communicate effectively, as sometimes games go faster or slower depending on situations. Above is the average time that these things happen. Here’s what to expect this week! - Monday is Freshman open house from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. The band will not be playing as the band room is currently inaccessible due to them redoing the lights. band will have a table set up in the court yard to answer any questions and provide information. - On Wednesday from 12-2pm, the executive leadership team and I will be reorganizing the room to get ready for the new year! All leadership members are welcome to join. Donuts will be provided! - Thursday is the first day of school!! It is also our first REQUIRED after school marching band practice 2:30-5:30pm. Please bring a change of clothes, your instrument, and everything you need for a successful rehearsal. It’s time to continue the positive momentum from band camp! Our first home game and performance of Mythos is August 18th!! - Saturday, August 12th, we will be hosting the 2023 Drum Corps International Finals night beginning at 6pm and ending at 11pm. Students are invited to come view the best marching units in the world compete for the world championship. It will be $5 to enter and will include pizza, popcorn, drinks, and other snacks, as well as 5 hours of amazing band content! Please see Mr. Wiley this week to secure your spot! Students can pay at the door, but I must know you’re coming first to get the right amount of food. - Parents, if you have applied to volunteer, you will officially be cleared this week. Please send me your name upon completing the application so I can make sure our coordinator at pslhs approves you. New parents can always apply through the school board website! It’s super easy and very helpful! - Enjoy your last few days of summer break and I am beyond excited for this new school year and all the opportunities that come with it! I hope you are having the absolute best time with the ones you care about most! Today marks TWO WEEKS before band camp, beginning on July 17th at 9am! I just wanted to give a few reminders for you all as we close the gap to camp!
- Get excited. This year is going to be amazing! I’m so motivated to make this the best year yet! Join me in the process of making awesomeness!!! - Hydrate!!! Drink water every day to make sure you are filled with plenty of fluids, that way your body isn’t shocked! - Get outside everyday and get used to the heat! Going for a bike ride, a walk, playing sports, etc, will be greatly beneficial! Start now if you haven’t :) - Attempt to get your sleep schedule on track….. lol! If you have been going to sleep at 3am and waking up at 1pm, it may be a good idea to try and get on a more “normal” schedule! We will begin at 9am sharp on July 17th! - PRACTICE YOUR INSTRUMENTS! Trust me on this one….. we’re trying to do big things this year. - Begin creating a mental checklist of things you’ll need for camp. Appropriate, light colored, athletic clothing, supportive athletic shoes, food for your lunches, a water jug to start (we will be providing uniform water jugs hopefully after the first few days. - Parents, please remember that if you’d like to help with the band this season, we will need you to complete the short and easy volunteer application on the st lucie schools website! Just google st lucie county school volunteers and it’ll be the first link. - Also, the band is always accepting donations of gallon water jugs, water bottles, salty snacks, fruit gummies, sunscreen, etc if you feel so inclined! Thanks in advance!! - Don’t forget the three forms (posted one before this one on the website) and $175 band fee are due by the first Wednesday of camp, July 19th, or asap. - Students, if you haven’t already, please let me know your shirt size at the following link!
