 Happy last week of school Band! Congrats on a wonderful school year!

- This week we will be collecting instruments. .Please bring all of these back to the band room. Even if you plan on checking out the same instrument again, you must turn it in first in order to re-check it out.

- We will also be collecting uniforms. Please return all of your uniform materials. This includes- All parts of the concert uniform (cummerbund, bowtie, shirt, jacket, pants, and dress) as well as all parts of the marching uniform. If you do not turn in your uniform, you will be STEALING from the band program. All of this equipment is expensive, so please return it.

-Next week will be leadership workshop on Monday and Tuesday, and Freshman Mini Camp Wednesday - Thursday. Please follow the Calendar.

-There will be a Freshman Parent Orientation on Tuesday, June 6th from 6-7pm. If any experienced band parents would like to attend to help out, you will be more than welcome! Please let Mr. Wiley or Mrs. Matthews know if you plan on attending.

-All scale pass - offs must be completed by this Friday. If you do not complete them, you will receive a 0. Remember, these are all test grades.

-Please ask Mr. Wiley if you have any questions

Good morning band! Thanks again to all the parents and students who made the Band Banquet possible! It was a wonderful evening to celebrate a successful year! Although we are very close to the end, we aren't exactly done yet, so please read the following updates:

-There is a Mandatory leadership meeting on Tuesday, 5/23 from 2 - 3pm in the band room. All leadership members are required to attend.

-Southport Middle School will be having their Spring concert Tuesday Night (5/23) at 7pm. Feel free to show up and support Mr. LeBon and the Southport Bands!

-The band will be attending the senior graduation rehearsal after school  on Wednesday, 5/24. All winds and percussion members should report to the band room at 12:. The rehearsal will begin at 12:30 and will be done by 1:30. You will need your instruments and music folder with the following music: Pomp and Circumstance, Kentucky 1800, Big Four, Cumberland Cross, and Sonatina for Band.

=The band will be playing at Graduation on Friday. We will be taking a bus to and from the Fenn Center in Fort Pierce. Graduation will begin at 1:30pm, however, we will be leaving PLSHS immediately after dismissal at 11:45. Please bring your concert uniform to school and be prepared to get changed immediately after school. This will be a graded performance and is required by all winds and percussion students. Graduation should be over around 3:30pm at the latest. Tentatively plan to pick up your band students from PSLHS at 4:00pm

Congratulations on a very successful week band! Spectrum was nothing less than spectacular and I hope that everyone had a great time at Busch Gardens! I know I did! As the end of the year approaches, lets finish strong and set ourselves up for another great year!

- Leadership auditions and interviews will begin on Monday (today)! Please dress appropriately and be on time!

- All hopeful executive leadership members need to send your 1 minute videos today if you haven't already! This is a requirement!

-We will be having a Senior Dinner on Thursday night. All seniors will be receiving a complimentary dinner from the band at Olive Garden! Dinner will be at 6:30!

-The band banquet is this Saturday! Doors will open at 5:30 and will begin at 6! Please remember that you and your guests must dress nicely!

-Senior Band Cords are available for $5.50 in the band room!

-Graduation will be on May 26th! The bands report time (all non-senior winds and percussion) will be at 12:15pm at the Fenn Center in Fort Pierce. Please arrive in full concert uniform. This will be a graded performance!

-Seniors, we will be collecting your uniforms and instruments this week! Please bring those in before this Thursday!

Busch Gardens Trip Last Minute Announcements

Congratulations on a fantastic Spectrum Concert! I hope you all had a great time performing and seeing how many people enjoyed your music! Tomorrow is our much deserved trip to Busch Gardens! In this post, you will find some last minute reminders and rules regarding the trip.

- Please arrive at PSLHS no later than 5:45 am. We will be leaving as soon as the bus gets here and we are all loaded up.

-Please remember that the dress code for the trip is a PSLHS Red Band shirt ( Can be from this year or years past) and comfortable, appropriate shorts/pants. There will be no short shorts. All shorts must extend at least halfway down your thigh.

-Please remember to eat breakfast before you come to school! Also, you may bring snacks on the bus.  There will be some snacks provided for the bus ride, thanks to Mrs. Alvarez!

-You may bring a small gym bag in the park, but remember, your bag will be checked at the gates.

-You may want to consider bringing a small towel to dry off after water rides.

-All students MUST have their Chaperone's cell phone number. This is a requirement. Also, please remember that the park is divided into 4 equal sections. You may do as you wish in each section, but in order to travel to a new section, you must do so as a group. This will be discussed with Chaperones before we leave.

-You are never allowed to travel anywhere in the park alone. You must always be with another person.

-Please remember that you are representing PSLHS and your community on this trip. Behave with the upmost respect and attitudes. Any and all discipline problems that are reported to Mr. Wiley will result in your parent being called to pick you up from the park. Please act as ladies and gentlemen.

-Most importantly, have fun!

Busch Garden’s Band Trip Itinerary

6:00am – 11:15pm

 
5:30am – Meet at PSLHS
6:00am – Depart for Tampa
9:30am – Arrive at Busch Garden’s Adventure Park
9:45am – Distribute ticket’s/get into your chaperone groups/develop a game plan with your group
10:00am – Fun in the park
12:00pm – recommended lunch time
1:00pm – Fun in the park
4:30pm – Band dinner at Serengeti Overlook restaurant (if you want to)
5:30pm – Fun in the park 
7:00pm – Leave park and meet at bus
7:30pm – Depart for home
11:00pm – Arrive at PSLHS
11:15pm – Dismissal

Happy concert week Everybody! This will surely be a fun and exciting week! Here are the things you need to know for this week!

-We will be having symphonic band rehearsal on Monday from 2 - 5pm. This rehearsal will be in the auditorium.

-Pit orchestra will rehearse from 6 - 8pm on Monday Night.

-There will be Jazz/Symphonic Band rehearsal on Tuesday from 2 - 5pm. All members are required to attend.

-Color guard will have practice on Tuesday from 2 - 4:30pm.

- There will be a mandatory Full Band Spectrum rehearsal on Wednesday from 2-5pm. This is a very important rehearsal because we will be going through the entire order of the concert!

-Spectrum will be on Thursday night at 7pm! Tickets are $7.00 at the door. Cash and card will be accepted. There will also be a bake sale to help support the band!

-The band trip is this Saturday, May 13th! Please remember that your trip must be payed off by Wednesday, May 10th! A trip Itinerary will be posted on Tuesday, May 9th.

-If you have not turned in your Band Banquet RSVP/Money, we will accept those today and tomorrow!

-There is a separate post regarding Leadership details! Please read if it concerns you!

Leadership Audition Information

That time of year is upon us! It is time to gear up and get ready for next years marching season! In this post, you will find any necessary information to prepare for your audition and/or your leadership interview!

Interviews:
Who has to interview? Anyone who is planning to go out for a leadership position must complete an interview! These will be held in Mr. Wiley's office during a designated time. Your time slot will be posted in the band room on Monday, May 8th. How should I prepare?
All leadership candidates should be expected to know the duties of the position(s) you are applying for. All candidates must dress professionally for their interview and expect to answer questions that revolve around what your expectations are to better the band program.

Auditions:
Who has to audition?  Not all leadership candidates have to complete an audition. Only those seeking to be on executive leadership (Drum Major, Band Captain, or 1st and 2nd Lieutenant), or a section leader/section captain must complete an audition. You will find the requirements for your auditions below.

Drum Major Auditions:

Drum Major auditions will be held in the PLSHS Band Room on Monday, May 15th from 2:00pm - 3:00pm. A document containing the requirements for Drum Major auditions was passed out during the last Drum Major Help Session. See Mr. Wiley if you did not receive one.

Executive Leadership Auditions:
Executive Leadership Auditions will be held in the PSLHS Band Room on Monday, May 15th from 3:00pm - 4:00pm. Your audition time will be posted in the PSLHS Band Room on Monday, May 8th. This audition will be judged based on 3 categories: Performing Marching Fundamentals, Teaching Marching Fundamentals, and Playing.

Performing Marching Fundamentals - Executive Leadership Candidates will be asked to demonstrate basic marching skills. Be prepared to demonstrate from the following commands - ( You should prepare all, but  will be asked to perform 5) 
  • Band -- ten hut….
  • Band -- horns up….
  • Band – horns down….
  • Band – parade rest….
  • Band – right – hace….
  • Band – left – hace…..
  • Mark – time – mark…..
  • For -- ward – march….
  • Back – ward – march….
  • Ready ----- Front…….
  • Dress – center – dress…..
Teaching Marching Fundamentals - Executive Leadership Candidates will be asked to teach a volunteer certain marching fundamentals. You should be prepared to teach from the commands written above. Your teaching will be evaluated on clarity of instruction, pacing of instruction, and knowledge of understanding.

Playing - All executive leadership
candidates will have to play major scales on their instruments. You will be performing 3 major scales from the following list: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, A. Your scales should be in pass-off rhythm with arpeggios. Bonus points will be applied to candidates who can perform scales in more than 1 octave.

Section Leader Auditions:

Section Leader auditions will be held in the PSLHS Band Room on Tuesday, May 16th from 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Your audition times will be posted in the PSLHS Band Room on Monday, May 8th. Teaching Weapon Basics - Candidates should be expected to teach consecutives, stops, and singles.

Percussion Captain Auditions:
Section captain positions will be held in the PSLHS Bandroom on Tuesday, May 16th from 2:00pm - 5:00pm. Your audition time will be posted on May 8th. The percussion captain position will be judged on 4 categories:

Demonstrating a Sectional Plan
- Leading sectionals will be a very large part of the percussion captain job. During your audition, you will have to give a verbal plan outlining your ideal sectional. This will be asked interview style.

Good morning and happy Monday Band Family! The end of the year is quickly approaching! And with that, our Spectrum concert, band TRIP, and Banquet are also going to be here before we know it!

- The first Pit orchestra rehearsal will be tonight, may 1st, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm! Your music will be passed out tonight!

-Symphonic band will rehearse on Tuesday from 2:00pm - 4:00pm

-Color guard will have practice on Tuesday and Thursday at their usual time.

-The 3rd and final Drum Major Help Session will be this Wednesday, May 3rd from 2:00pm 3:00pm

-Please remember that band trip permission forms are due this Friday, May 5th! If you do not turn in your forms by this date, you WILL NOT be going on the trip! No exceptions.

-Also, your band banquet RSVP envelopes are due by this Friday, May 5th! Please drop your envelope in the invitation box in Mr. Wiley's office. If you don't turn yours in, with payment, you will not be issued a ticket.

-Our spectrum concert is NEXT Thursday, May 11th! Share the Facebook event and invite all your friends.

-Please make sure you're band trip balance is paid in FULL by Wednesday May 10th!

-Meal Voucher Payment's for the trip are being accepted. This will cost $35 and is NOT included in your trip fees. This voucher will allow you to eat unlimited at select restaurants at Busch Gardens throughout the day.
